If you have dependents
that need your income to live on, the rule of thumb is 8 to 10 times
your annual income. Your individual circumstances may require more or
less than this number.

They both have the
potential to grow tax
deferred but the Roth IRA is also TAX FREE (certain requirements apply) at retirement time, where as
the withdraws from a regular "deductible" IRA is 100% taxable.
Withdraws prior to age 591/2 for both may be subject to a 10% penalty
and taxes.
